Let's Get Rid of Excess Baggage!

Hey, Guys and Gals, doesn't everyone have some excess baggage that needs chucking? Yep, I thought so. Here's a good article on the exact same subject, get rid of excess stuff - and it's got some good information, just for you.

5 Tips for Getting Rid of Excess Stuff by Mary Brown

Don't you think that deciding to get rid of excess stuff is somewhat like making a New Year's resolution? We're all into the moment and get all emotional and shout, "This is it! I'm going to do such and such this new year!" Hooray for us!

Since most of the time these decisions don't last, let me help you with my 5 tips to get rid of excess stuff:

1. Make a quality decision. 2. Have a plan before you start. 3. Set a specific date and time. 4. Have someone help you. 5. Determine to stay clutter free.

Don't we just finally get tired of looking at the mess, throw up our hands and vow to get rid of it once and for all?

Instead of doing that, take the time to sit down and rationally and unemotionally make a quality decision to get organized and uncluttered.

Ok, now that you've made the decision, get something to write on because you're going to make a plan.

Set a specific date and time for the cleaning. If you don't do this you'll just keep putting it off like you've already done up to this point. Believe me, I know. So, mark your calendar and stick to it.

Next get the family involved. If you're single see if you can't get some friends to help. The reason for this is to keep you from saving most of what you should be clearing out.

Tell them to be "brutal" with you! You've got to get this excess stuff gone and for good. It doesn't matter what you do with it - give it away, throw it away, have a garage sale - just get rid of it!

So you've made your quality decision to get clutter free, you've set the date and time and you've got your help. Now comes the hardest part, I think, of all. You've got to be determined to not go back to being a pack rat!

While you're in your planning mode, think about how you ended up with all this excess in the first place and decide, again a quality decision, to change your habits.

So now let's recap our 5 tips:

1. Make a quality decision. 2. Have a plan before you start. 3. Set a specific date and time. 4. Have someone help you. 5. Determine to stay clutter free.

It only takes 30 days, "they" say, to make or break a habit. Therefore, if you stick with it for at least 30 days after you get rid of the excess stuff, your desire to let things pile up should be under control and you can live a more organized and clutter free life.
