Helping a Pack Rat Declutter

First of all, does the pack rat really want to declutter? Sometimes accumulating things gets to be addictive and we don't want help decluttering or cleaning out. But then if it's time for it to go, then it's gotta go! So, here are some decluter tips for helping a pack rat declutter.

Back up the moving van, granny, we’re going to declutter. There it is. Your first declutter home tip. Not what you were expecting? I didn’t think so, but of course I was just joking.

Now here are just a few tips to get you thinking of how you can declutter and organize. Ok, this probably seems obvious, but the first thing to do is take a look at what needs to be done overall.

Once you get a good idea of where you’re going, then you can take the time to divide the tasks into smaller jobs. Don’t obsess over the “all” that needs doing just concentrate on the one job at hand. Finish that and move on to the next.

Don’t be overly concerned about the time issue. You didn’t get into this mess in one day, so don’t expect to get it all done in one day. Unless, of course, you’re only mildly cluttered! (Is there such a thing as “mildly” cluttered?)

In fact, I’d suggest making a plan or list of what needs doing. Then have a brain storm session with your family on how and when you can get it done. Try to get everyone involved. That way the weight of it all isn’t on one person. Would that person be you…the one reading this article?

Another declutter help tip would be to just hire someone to come in and straighten up your mess. Yes, that could be pricey, but is your sanity worth it? Then the big question is, would everyone in the family agree to keep up with the new uncluttered lifestyle? Hmmm, it’s something to think about.

So, while you’re thinking you can find out more with a great resource, Declutter Fast, by Mimi Tanner. A short easy to read ebook on how to get your house organized almost immediately. Mimi was once a cluttered pack rat herself. Read her story and tips and see if they won’t help you declutter fast.
